For many homeowners, every dinner party or meal preparation is a time that their mind wanders and they begin to daydream of a bigger, more open, better functioning kitchen space. While it is fun to dream, and many of us do it regularly while fully realizing that a new kitchen isn’t necessary right now, there are times when remodeling your kitchen should go from a “want” to a “need.” Here are three reasons or signs that it might be time to start planning on a kitchen remodel.
1. You have outgrown your kitchen.
Things are constantly piling up on the counters, your drawers won’t close, and dishes rarely make it from the dishwasher to the cabinets. There are all signs that you need updated kitchen cabinets with more storage, better organization, and the current room layout is inefficient – all things that can be addressed with a kitchen remodel.
2. You find yourself eating out to avoid your kitchen.
Whether it is outdated appliances that make meal prepping more of a headache than anything or you just don’t want to deal with the tight, cramped space – when you avoid using your kitchen for “kitchen things,” it is time for a remodel.
3. You want to increase the value of your home.
Whenever you are looking to boost the value of your home, a kitchen remodel is a great place to start. There’s a wide range of numbers out there, but if you’re living in a home with an older, outdated kitchen, there’s no doubt that remodeling the kitchen will add value to the home and you’ll almost certainly see a larger increase in home value than you spend remodeling the kitchen. That being said, at Tharp, we do not advise that you wait until you are about to sell your home to remodel and upgrade your kitchen. If it’s something you want to do, we say go for it now and enjoy the benefits of your remodel for a few years before you sell the house.
